The Tip of Western Oz

Exmouth holidays are perfect for those hoping to engage with the diverse wildlife and natural landscapes of Australia. Hidden away on the tip of Western Australia, this charming little town becomes a tourism hotspot between April and October when visitors flock to see whale sharks and snorkel on the stunning Ningaloo Reef.

While the east coast of Australia is often favoured over the more sparsely populated west, much of the same beach-based and natural lures can be found flourishing the other side of this massive country. And you'll discover this in earnest during your holidays in Exmouth, whether you're swimming alongside a gentle giant of the ocean, trekking around the arid landscape or getting to know a little bit about the ideals and traditions of your chosen holiday destination.
 

In the Town and Out on Adventures

While the majority of people on holiday in Exmouth will quickly flock to the coastal attractions on offer, those that spend a little bit of time around the town and away from the sand and sea will be rewarded. There are some interesting sites around the town as well as some impressive landscapes worth visiting, and seeing as you'll find yourself based in an Exmouth hotel, you may as well get to know the town you're in! The Naval transmission Station is a significant reminder of how Exmouth flourished in the 1960s when the town became home to an important communications facility. At the time the tower was the tallest in the Southern hemisphere and is the second-tallest today. Another worthwhile site around the town is the Vlamingh Head Lighthouse which provides a fantastic setting for viewing the beautiful sunset.

You'll find a lot of action and adventure embedded in the ethos of the town, much of it in and under the water. But before you don your snorkel or face mask, why not have a go at a new sport? Exmouth Kite Centre offers some great tours and tuition in the realm of kite surfing, allowing visitors to embrace the waves and wind in a stunning setting. Meanwhile, the Thomas Carter Lookout Walk is a great way of spotting some of the country's unique wildlife, expect to encounter emus and kangaroos.

Underwater Adventure

Many travellers embark on holidays to Exmouth to embrace the stunning underwater features that can be found off the coast. The two most popular spots for some exploration beneath the waves are along the Ningaloo Reef and off from the the Cape Range National Park. Near the entry of the latter, just a few kilometres from the town, you'll gain access to the beaches that sit beside the reef. Turquoise Beach is the most beautiful and iconic of them all, allowing you easy access to the reef where you can spot the likes of turtles, shark and stingrays while snorkelling.

Arguably the biggest wildlife attraction in the area is the docile whale shark. The giant chaps float into the bay as early as March and hang around until the end of July, with April and May the peak months to encounter them. There are numerous diving and snorkelling tours on offer throughout the town that will allow you to get up close to these magnificent animals.

If you don't fancy getting wet but you'd like to encounter some of the wonders of the ocean, the bay is also a popular breeding ground for Humpback Whales. The bay is full of them during the autumn and spring months, and you'll find numerous boat tours that will have you mingling with the beasts for an hour or two.
